When using birm mineral, be careful not to have oil, hydrogen sulphide, organic matter of 4 - 5 ppm in water. Also, the amount of dissolved oxygen in the water should be at least 15% of the amount of iron, and the pH level of the water should be 6.8 or more. If the pH level is low, it should be increased by using one of Turbidex, Corosex, Calcite minerals or caustic. If the amount of dissolved oxygen in the water is low, the necessary amount should be reached by ventilation.
Raw water should be checked periodically. Especially if there is manganese in raw water, if the manganese is higher than the raw water in the purified water before the reverse rinse, the media starts to break down or the capacity of the media becomes full.
If there is no residual chlorine or hydrogen sulphide in water, the lack of low pH or dissolved oxygen is the main reason for the media to begin to break down.
Chemicals that can be added during the reverse rinsing or in the raw water prevent the media from performing its duty or reduce the efficiency by covering the media with pieces or media. Consult your firm before adding any chemicals.
Birm can also be used in manganese removal. For manganese removal, the pH level of the water should be between 8 and 9. If there is iron in the water at the same time, it should be in the range of pH 8 - 8.5. If the pH level is above 8.5, colloidal iron is formed and is almost impossible to clean.
BENEFITS
- Long life
- Can work in very wide temperature range
- It is quite high iron consumption
- Regeneration has minimal labor costs as it does not require chemistry.
- It can only be cleaned by reverse rinsing, which is done periodically.
APPLICATION CONDITIONS
- Alkalinity must be at least twice as much as the sum of sulfate and chloride.
- Maximum water temperature is 38, pH range is 6.8 - 9, the amount of dissolved oxygen is at least 15% of the amount of iron and at least 29% of the amount of manganese.
- Bed height should be minimum 76 cm, reverse rinsing 10-12 gpm / ft2, service rate 3.5 - 5 gpm / ft2. Working at higher temperatures depends on local conditions.
- Free chlorine should not be at least 0,5 ppm, hydrogen sulphide, oil and polyphosphates in raw water.
